Communal creating in NYC

One of my favorite activities I participated in this summer was a workshop offered by Happy Medium at the Prospect Park Carousel. Happy Medium is an art club for folks of all skill levels that offers events ranging from Art of Watercolor Farmer's Market Finds to Art History 101 Pumpkin Painting, and they even have an open studio Art Cafe available for you to freely use for your creative endeavors.

For our session at the carousel we gathered just as the sun was beginning to set in the park. Your reservation includes all of the supplies you'll need for that session's activity, such as paper, watercolors, vine charcoal, brushes, and a large tablet to hold it all. The 2 hour session had the perfect balance of structure and free play so you could enjoy the time with your friends while not feeling directionless.

At the end of the drawing/painting session they even give you the opportunity to ride the carousel. Check out Happy Medium for other fun activities and workshops centered around low pressure creativity and be sure to visit their Art Cafe for classes featuring lamp building, ceramics, woodworking, and more!
